Malvina Reynolds: Song Lyrics and Poems

Untitled

Notes: by Malvina Reynolds; previously unpublished.

What can you do with the blues?
You can't trade them in for dancing shoes,
For a suit of clothes or a dress.
The blues are a mess.
What can you do with the blues?
You can make a song but it's not good news,
No one enjoys a signal of distress.
Blues are a mess.
A smile calls out an answering smile,
A song awakens a song.
But the miseries rate nothing but
Goodbye, so long.
